Play Development

When we evaluated Petra Little Theatre (now Petra Theatre) mission in 2013, we decided to create a new initiative which will support young student-playwrights and playwrights who are serious in creating new, original works pertaining to issues relevant to our society.

So the New Play Development (NPD) was born. Meilinda and Stefanny Irawan, as co-creators and mentors of the program, work closely with our Resident Playwrights whose members include both alumni and students.

From the beginning, we knew this program would take a lot of energy and time, but we also understand the significance it plays in building our local (and in turn, national) theatre scene, and we are committed to it. Since its inception, NPD has produced 14 exciting, fresh, original works of plays and plays-with-music:

  • “Evita” by Francisca Vinybelinda

  • “Congratulations, You Get the Job!” by Francisca Vinybelinda

  • “Mother, How Are You Today?” by Jessie Monika

  • “Listen to Me” by Bernadeth Febyola Linando

  • “Customer is King” by Edwin Siongko

  • “Going Home” by Dita Berlian

  • "A Story of Wounds" by Jessie Monika

  • "The Cues" by Meilinda

  • "In Da City" by Francisca Vinybelinda

  • "11 Questions" by Jessie Monika

  • "The Clues" by Meilinda

  • "What If" by Jessie Monika

  • "The Clues 2" by Winona Nathania

  • "The Clues 3" by Helen Hodiono

We also launched New Play Development Program Series where we, so far, have published 4 of the NPD works.
